Heuston Station Masterplan – Access Infrastructure Project

Location: Heuston Station, Dublin City
Services: Tree Survey · Arboricultural Impact Assessment · Tree Protection Strategy
Year: 2024–2025

TreeSpace was appointed to undertake a comprehensive arboricultural assessment for the Heuston Station Masterplan – a transformative project by Córas Iompair Éireann (CIE) to reimagine Heuston as a vibrant transport-oriented district on the River Liffey.

The proposed works include a new pedestrian and cycle bridge linking the station to Conyngham Road, a riverside boardwalk, and enhanced access and public realm improvements. TreeSpace assessed 137 trees within the study area, applying BS 5837:2012 standards to guide layout design, retention feasibility, and construction-stage protection measures.

The assessment achieved a 75% tree retention rate, safeguarding all high-quality trees while developing a robust landscape mitigation strategy targeting approximately 125 new replacement trees. The project demonstrates how sustainable transport infrastructure can integrate with and enhance Dublin’s urban green network along the River Liffey.
